ALA.NI

London-based jazz singer Ala.ni has one of the most soothing voices of the moment. The atmosphere she creates whenever her vocal chords stir, makes you wanna crawl up and purr, while the tempature rises from 'yeah okay' to 'oooh cozy'. There's a sexiness to it, as if she's singing right next to you, tempting you, like a siren. And there's a lot more she can do with that voice, as you can read in this rave review.
I don't know how Ala.ni feels about this, but the great Mary Margaret O'Hara (she of this ultrafantastic Xmas classic) feels like a kindred spirit. It all comes down to this: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, one could say. A long introduction just to tell you that Ala.ni made a Christmas EP, on which she covers standards and a carol, AND she penned a effing fantastic Christmas song herself. This, people, this is the stuff we live for here at CAGG.
