Sleaford Mods - Bad Santa
They may not be the first band that comes to mind when you think of Christmas music, but predictability is not the greatest virtue of Sleaford Mods. And that's a good thing. This great 'Bad Santa' track is released today and is featured on next year's album 'The Demise of Planet X', from which they already released two singles earlier this year.
But wait, are Sleaford Mods going to be all sugar-sweet about rumpumpumpums and falalalas, I hear you say? Don't worry. They're taking a stand as always and just going at it fiercely again, all partly covered in a great and unexpected sample from Enigma's Sadeness. And who better to explain the lyrics of this track than the gentlemen of Sleaford Mods themselves:
"It's about alpha male culture, the rise of the right, and Donald Trump, who's basically Bad Santa. I tried to get Andrew Tate in there as well, even if only briefly. They're dangerous people. I wanted to take a more nuanced swing at it, so the sound is a bit different for us. It undercuts all that chest-puffing aggression.
It also gets into the way some people think they can tell you how to live. Someone had a pop at me for having a decent car or a new kitchen because I'm in Sleaford Mods. That's where the line I'll come around your house and I'll cook for you comes from. It's me saying how about I turn up at yours and start telling you what to do. So the whole thing ties together those ideas of blokes barking orders and acting like they run the place."
Hallelujah. Bad Santa.
