Christmas in the year
The idea was, let's see what pops up if I search Christmas songs with a year in the title. And see if they also mention that year in the lyrics. If not, that is OK too, but then it has to be a nice song. Here's a selection of what I found:
Bit of power pop, with an upbeat outlook:
It's 1996, it's Christmas and I miss you, so I wrote a beautiful song about it:
When you call a song 'Christmas 1977' you'd expect a track with a Ramones-riff and a Johnny Rotten-sneer, yeah? That's wot you get, keep listening for the coda and the mentioning of the year:
More folksy, without mentioning the year, but still a gorgeous song about longing:
Remember when your mom and dad told you that Santa isn't real? I guess it happened to this fella in 1999. He took his acoustic guitar an wrote a song about it, which is nice:
Long intro, sound effects, punky song, something about not getting presents in 1919:
Ah yes, Wild Billy Childish and his lament of what happened after Christmas in 1979:
This needs a Dutch entry too, of course. And there's no better representative than this fine fine retro-vibe, Joost Kolker featuring singer Daniël Lohues (living Drenthian legend)
"You took my innocence at Christmas, 1982/It wasn't that bad what you did to me/but symbolically I was dead". This from a guy who posts new song every two weeks, since 2009, and who passed the 400 song mark a while ago:
Aux Caroling, the moniker of Scott Deaver, has made a few date-mentioning Christmas songs. This is, imo, the best:
