Mayer Hawthorne/Emotions


'What do the lonely do at Christmas' is a song by female trio The Emotions, released in 1973 on Stax Records. It has not grown into a soul xmas classic as big as, say, Donny Hathaway's This Christmas, or Stevie's What Christmas Means to Me. But in the past years, it's been getting more and more recogntion. Wax Poetics magazine once wrote about the song: 'A killer soul song that happens to be set at Christmas time and includes some subtle yet tasteful aural accents to give it that wintery, cold, and lonely feel.' Mayer Hawthorne, we posted more tracks by this soulboy, just released a great high pitched version:
