Peggy Sue
To be honest, when I say a tracklist containing 'Blue Christmas' and 'Jingle Bells' on a new Christmas EP, I usually pass. But when Jim CU passes you Peggy Sue's 'Surf Xmas', you gotta listen, right? And you gotta hand it to Jim - this is an interesting EP. When I think of 'surf', I think of the hard rocking Dick Dale-instrumentals (or this great recent album by Dutch jazzheads BRUUT!). Peggy Sue are more laidback, concentrating (when key members Rosa and Katy sing) on the vocals, instead of solos. No mean feat, to make worn out carols 'n Xmas pop really interesting. I really love that British accent in 'Jingle Bells', and that Phil Spectorian vibe.
