Eli Paperboy Reed

Guestpost from mr @t55 again! Ton is big music fan, you can follow his updated New Americana-playlist too.

Soulman Eli Paperboy Reed is at it again. He’s been making sweet soul music and old skool rhythm & blues since 2005, so he knows a good tune when he hears one - or composes one himself. His new single features the Wham! everchristmasgreen Last Christmas on the A-side. That million seller gets a nice soul treatment, which makes it tolerable for all those no-more-Whammies. But it’s the B-side that really shines here. It’s an original called ‘Merry Christmas To Me’. As the title suggests it’s a powerful soul ballad full of heartbreak & pain for every lonely spender of the Christmas holidays. Well, she may be gone, but keep your hopes up: “next year will be better.”

Thanks mr T55!
Back to the editor then:

When it comes to soul, Glaswegian Anton O'Donnell has a gem to present. His single Ain't No Way (I'm Missing Christmas With You) is part of an Xmas EP (find that one HERE) with Americana-influenced, self-penned seasonal songs. But Ain't No Way's is, as said, the gem here. Blue eyed soul, referring to O'Donnell's fellow Scotsman Frankie Miller, to Van Morrison, to James Hunter. Yes, it's THAT good. The horns, the harmonies, the Hammond.
